Mini-Messi leaves Tottenham

Amidst the flurry of departures from Premier League clubs on European transfer deadline day, one name that may have escaped attention was that of Marcus Edwards.

The 20-year old was once so highly rated at Tottenham, that his manager Mauricio Pochettino dubbed him as mini-Messi. Yet the player, who joined Spurs as a six year old, failed to live up to that potential, playing just once for the senior team in a 4 – 0 EFL Cup defeat of Gillingham. He was sent out on loan to Norwich City but made just one appearance for the Carrow Road side before returning to Tottenham for “personal reasons”.

Now he has finally moved on after joining Portuguese side Vitoria in a permanent move. Edwards though will be hoping for an early return to North London. His new side have been drawn in the same group as Arsenal in the group phase of the Europa League.
