Manchester United fans, unhappy with the club’s transfer business, have taken to social media to express their discontent.
Over the summer the club spent £140 million on new signings in the form of Harry Maguire, Daniel James, and full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. They have also managed to hold on to Paul Pogba and David de Gear.
However, they sold Romello Lukach to Inter Milan without signing a replacement, with a deal for Mario Mandžukić of Juventus falling through at the last minute because of the Croatia striker’s wage demands, and the asking price set by the Serie A champions.
In particular, supporters are unhappy about the failure to conclude a deal for Sporting Lisbon captain, Bruno Fernandes, despite being linked with the midfielder all summer.
An online Twitter campaign with the handle #woodwardOut – calling for executive vice chairman Ed Woodward to stand down – was trending in the UK on Thursday, attracting more than 50,000 tweets.
