Arsenal have already begun preparing for next summer’s transfer window, with a replacement for Thomas Partey among their priorities.
They were prepared to let the Ghanian international go in the last window, had they received a bid for him that matched their valuation. Although there was reported interest from Saudi Arabia amd Juventus, nothing materialised in the end.
And his latest injury setback – he is out for a minimum of six weeks with a thigh strain – has only raised more questions about his future at the club.
And one man who is already under consideration is Youssouf Fofana of AS Monaco. He came close to making a move to the Premier League already, with Monaco having accepted a bid of £30 million for his services, only for Fofana to turn it down.
With his contract set to expire at the end of this season, although with an option for a further, year, he should be available for a reduced fee next summer.
