Newcastle United are in talks with Chelsea about a potential loan move for German striker Timo Werner, who has also been linked with former club RB Leipzig and Real Madrid.
The 26 year old has never really settled at Stamford Bridge, and has never found the form he showed at Leipzig, where 34 goals in his last 45 games was enough to persuade Chelsea to pay £50 million for him two years ago.
A potential problem are his wages of £270,000, which neither Newcastle nor Leipzig are prepared to match. That means he will either have to accept a pay cut, or Chelsea will have to partly subsidise the move..
If Werner does make the move, it will mean that Chelsea will go into the season with close to £150,000 out on loan, with Romelu Lukaku already back at Inter Milan.
