Manchester United are set to battle Chelsea for the signature of Sevilla defender Jules Koundè.
Thomas Tuchel’s side spent much of the summer trying to agree a transfer for the French international, but no deal could be reached because Sevilla refused to budge on his £68 million release clause.
With doubts overt eh futures of Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva, Chelsea were widely expected to go back for Koundè when the window opens again in January,
However, it now looks like they might face competition from a familiar foe with Manchester United also interested in signing him
United have kept just one clean sheet in their last 13 matches, and with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under increasing pressure for his job, they are desperate to find somebody who can shore up their leaky defence, and have identified Koundè as a partner for Harry Maguire or, if his poor form continues, even a as a replacement,
