Full-back Nuno Tavares is on the verge of leaving Arsenal.

Signed from Benfica in the summer of 2021, the Portuguese under-21 international has made 28 appearances for the club in all competitions, but spent the whole of the 2022-23 season on loan at Marseille, before joining Nottingham Forest in a similar deal during the last campaign.

However, he barely featured for the first team during his time at the City Ground.

He had previously outlined how he wanted to remain win the Gunners and force his way into Mikel Arteta’s plans, but the club have now said he is free to leave, and now Serie A side Lazio have agreed a  loan deal with an obligation to buy. The deal, which will include a sell-on clause, is thought to between ₤5 million and ₤6 million.

Arsenal want to clear out a number of fringe players, and Tavares could be followed out the door by others in the next few weeks.
