Chelsea ready to sell Chilwell

Chelsea are ready to sell Ben Chilwill, with new manager Enzo Maresca apparently preferring Marc Cucurella in the left-back position.

That is a reversal of fortunes, because, until recently, it was assumed that the Spaniard was the one who was most likely to go.

Chilwell joined Chelsea from Leicester City four years ago, and has gone on to make 106 appearances for the club in all competitions.

However, there are increasing concerns about his injury record. He missed 23 games through a combination of knee and hamstring injuries and illness, and that ultimately cost him a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad at the Euros, where he almost certainly would have played, given their limited options in that position.

Now, in the event that they receive a suitable offer, Chelsea are ready to green-light his departure. Knowing that getting his ₤200,000 a week wages off their books will be a useful cost saving.
