Chelsea set to ramp up spending

Having spent over ₤1 billion on new players since the Todd Boehly/Clearwater Capital consortium took control of the club, Chelsea are showing no signs on putting the brakes on when it comes to spending.

Already they have been one of the most active in the market this summer, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City being their latest acquisition.

At the same time, they have been concerned about having to comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules, which has seen them sell Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa, and engage in several swap deals involving youth and reserve players.

Now, however, the PSR deadline of June 30th has passed, they may be ready to ramp up the spending even further.

The Leeds duo of Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville were next on their shopping list, but they have now lost out on Gray.

He was already in the middle of a transfer saga. He was on the verge of joining Brentford before the deal fell through at the last minute amidst reports of interest from Tottenham, who have now signed him for a fee of₤30 million.

But Chelsea still have plenty of other targets, though.
