Chelsea set to sign Fulham defender

Chelsea are close to signing Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer, becoming their first incoming of the transfer window.

Although Newcastle and Manchester United are interested in the player as well, he has opted to join Fulham’s West London neighbours, who have offered him a long-term deal.

The opportunity to play in Europe is also an attraction for the 26 year old, although that will only be in the Europa Conference League next season.

Chelsea will be hoping that his height and commanding presence will help make them stronger in both penalty boxes next season.

Yet another Manchester City academy player, Adarabioyo turned down the opportunity in April to become one of Fulham’s highest paid players.

His arrival at Stamford Bridge could accelerate the departure of Trevoh Chalobah, with the veteran Thiago Silva having already departed the club, returning to his native Brazil with Fluminense.

A former England youth international, Adarabioyo remains eligible to play for Nigeria through his parentage.
