Lokonga told to find a new club

Albert “Sambi” Lokonga has been told to find a new club by Arsenal.

Signed from Anderlecht in the summer of 2021 where he had impressed playing under Vincent Kompany, there were high initial hopes for the Belgian midfielder, but he was unable to establish him in the first team with Thomas Partey ahead of him.

He spent the second half of the 2022-2023 season on loan with Crystal Palace but again found first-team appearances hard to come by.

Last season he was loaned again, this time to Luton Town, and, although he suffered several injury setbacks, did impress when he was able to play.

However, now back at the Emirates, discussions about his future have been held, and it is made clear that he needs to move elsewhere.

The Gunners are widely expected to buy another central midfielder this summer, which means no place for Lokonga.

He still has one year left on his contract at the Emirates, plus an option for a further 12 months.
