Maatsen wants permanent Dortmund move

Dutch full-back Ian Maatsen, who joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Chelsea in January wants to make the move permanent.

He has already informed his parent club of his wishes.

Maatsen had enjoyed a successful loan spell with Burnley and played a keen role in their promotion campaign, and the Lancashire club agreed a fee to sign him on a full-time basis. However, Maatsen turned that down, vowing to fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.

In the end, though, he was given limited opportunities under Mauricio Pochettino in the first-half of the season, with manager Mauricio Pochettino preferring to deploy Levi Colwill in the left-back role.

Before allowing him to leave on loan, Chelsea made Maatsen sign a new contract, which includes a release clause of ₤35 million, and the Germans are now expected to trigger this at the end of the season.

Maatsen scored one of the goals as Dortmund beat Atlético Madrid to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
