Chelsea planning substantial clear-out

Chelsea are planning to overhaul their squad again in the summer, which could see up to 11 members of the first-team squad depart.

It has been widely reported that the club need to sell some players by the end of June in order to try and generate the sums needed to avoid them breaching FFP rules.

From the fan perspective, that could see academy graduates like Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah and even captain Reece James leave, decisions that will not be universally popular.

However, beyond that, it is widely accepted that the squad needs overhauling after a disappointing season, with their hopes of European football next season now receding, unless they can overcome Manchester City in their FA Cup semi-final.

With money needed to recruit in key positions, especially striker, then a number of the Boehly era signings could also be deemed surplus to requirements.
