Kepa set for Chelsea return

Real Madrid have ruled out the possibility of signing Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on a permanent basis, and he will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

The Spaniard had moved to the Bernabeu on loan in September as cover for the injured Thibaut Courtois.

However, when he himself got injured, Ukrainian Andriy Lunin took his place, and has kept it ever since.

Courtois is now out for the rest of the season, but the Spanish club have decided to extend Lunin’s contract, which means there is no place next season for Kepa.

It means an uncertain future for the most expensive goalkeeper in the world in terms of transfer fee paid, with no obvious place back for him in West London. Whilst Chelsea will look to sell him, they know they will not get anything approaching what they paid Athletic Bilbao for him in the first place.
