White signs new Arsenal deal

Full back Ben White has signed a new contract with Arsenal, although the news has yet to be officially confirmed by the club.

The 26 year old was signed from Brighton in the summer of 2021 for ₤50 million, and was bought originally as a centre-half. However, he was shifted to right-back at the start of last season to allow for the integration of William Saliba into the team, and has since made the position his own.

He has formed an effective partnership on the right side of the team with Bukayo Saka and captain Martin Ødegaard, and he contributed both assists in their latest Premier League win over Brentford.

White would have had two years left on his existing deal this summer, but he is the latest in a succession of Gunners to commit their long-term future to the club.

In normal circumstances, he would have been a shoe-in for Gareth Southgate’s England squad, but, for unspecified reasons, the pair have fallen out. So he is unlikely to appear at the Euros.
