Candidates to replace Pochettino emerge

Although publicly Mauricio Pochettino insists he has the support of the club’s owners after Chelsea lost the EFL Cup final to Liverpool, internally a shortlist of candidates to replace him is being drawn up.

Ruben Amorim, currently in charge of Sporting Lisbon, is being heavily linked with the job, and, having had previous discussions about the role, is the favourite in the eyes of some if the Argentine is sacked.

However, among a certain section oi the fan base, hankering for past glories, there is a desire to see Jose Mourinho, currently out of work, return for a third stint at the club, although whether the owners would be prepared to cope with his temperament and demands is another issue.

Meanwhile Xavi, who is to leave Barcelona at the end of the season is also being touted, although whether he wants to change one difficult job for another remains to be seen.

Hansi Flick, Roberto De Zerbi and Simone Inzaghi have also been mentioned, and this list may only grow unless Pochettino can show he is capable of turning the ship round fast.
