Albert “Sambi” Lokonga could yet have a future at Arsenal.
The Gunners signed him from Anderlecht in 2021 for ₤17 million, but he failed to establish himself at the Emirates, and spent the second half of last season with Crystal Palace. He made a handful appearances for them, but did not impress enough for them to want to make the arrangement permanent.
He then joined Luton Town on loan for this season, and, initially struggled with injuries.
However, since regaining fitness, he has produced a number of impressive cameo performances, and that may have prompted a re-think by the Gunners.
They will be watching his progress carefully over what remains of the season.
Previously a candidate to be sold once his loan period at Kenilworth Road was finished, now they believe that playing regular football ha helped instil the confidence to go with his undoubted talent, and that he could be reintegrated into Mikel Arteta’s squad for next season.
