Chelsea closing in on another South American youngster

Chelsea’s strategy of recruiting the best young South American talent is about to go a step further.

Reports from São Paolo suggests they have sent one of heir legal executives to the city to secure the signature of Estavao Willian, a left-footed winger who is only 16, and is currently on the books of Palmeiras.

Despite his tender age, he has a termination release clause in his contract of up to ₤50 million, which Chelsea are prepared to meet.

Only 70% of this fee will go the Brazilian club, with Estavao’s family owning the rest of his rights.

PSG were also heavily interested in the player, but pulled out after refusing to meet his release clause.

However, even if Chelsea do sign him, they will be unable to bring him to London until he has turned 18 because of FIFA regulations concerning the transfer of under-age players.

Instead he will remain in Brazil on loan.
