Arsenal may have to settle for January loan deals

Financial Fair Play constraints means that Arsenal may have to settle for loan deals if they want to supplement their squad in January.

That is, because if they want to sign anybody permanently in the current window, they would have to sell first, and, although there is plenty of interest in the likes of Eddie Nkteiah, Aaron Ramsdale and Emile Smith-Rowe, there is a reluctance to allow them to leave without replacing them first.

And it now appears that the area of the team that Mikel Arteta believes is most in need of strengthening is left-back.

Ironically, a few months ago, it seemed like they could recall Kiernan Tierney from his own loan spell at Real Sociedad, with the Scot finding it difficult to force his way into the team there after an injury interrupted start.

However, he is now playing regularly for them, and, having agreed a season long loan, that avenue now appears closed to the Gunners.
