Chelsea head race for Dutch defender

Chelsea are leading a number of Premier League rivals in the race to sign Dutch defender Jeremie Frimpong, who has been part of the Bayer Leverkusen side that have taken the Bundesliga by storm this season.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all reported to be monitoring the 23 year old’s situation. He has already scored seven goals and provided ten assists in all competitions this season, and his style of play appears tailor-made for the Premier League.

However, Chelsea are ready to pay close to ₤35 million for a player who could offer competition for Reece James, who has had his more than his fair share of injury problems.

Frimpong, though, will want to be convinced that he will be a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, especially as Leverkusen have an excellent chance of securing their first ever Bundesliga title.

He will be part of the Dutch squad at next summer’s Euros.
