Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny could be set for a surprise move to Atlético Madrid in January.
The 31 year old Egyptian is the longest serving player currently at Arsenal, having joined the club in 2016 from Basel.
However, he is primarily a squad player now, and spent the 2019 – 2020 season on loan in Turkey with Beşiktaş.
He missed much of last season with a knee injury, having signed a new one and half year deal with the club in February.
The Spanish club are in need of midfield reinforcements and regard Elneny as a low cost option as they have limited funds to spend in the forthcoming window.
They may press the Gunners to allow him to leave on loan for the rest of the season, so it will be down to the Gunners to decide if they have enough cover in the position.
