Chelsea will not sign a new keeper In January

Chelsea are not expected to try to sign a new goalkeeper in January, despite the injury to theor current number one Robert Sanchez.

He suffered a knee injury in the defeat away at Everton and is expected to be sidelined for a significant period of time.

Instead they are likely to give Djordje Petrovic a run in the team, and he made his first start for the club in the home win over Sheffield United at the weekend, although he was barely tested in that match. He then proved to be the hero in their penalty shoot-out win over Newcastle in the EFL Cup quarter-final.

Petrovic was signed from New England Revolution in the summer for ₤4 million, and there are those who believe he can offer serious competition to Sanchez. He is a full Serbian international, and will hope to feature for them in the Euros next summer.

Links about a move for Arsenal’s disaffected Aaron Ramsdale persist, but any move for him may now be deferred until the summer, and it is unlikely the Gunners would allow him to leave in the middle of the season anyway.
