Chelsea have made no secret of the fact that they want to buy a striker in January, and, although the names of Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney are the most frequently mentioned with a move to Stamford Bridge, a new figure may now be in the frame.
Reports from Scandinavia suggest that they have joined the race to sign Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres who is currently playing for Sporting Lisbon in the Primeira Liga.
Inter Milan, Arsenal, Newcastle and Fulham are also reported to be monitoring his situation.
Now 25, Gyökeres has plenty of English experience already. He was on the books of Brighton, but never made a senior appearance for them, instead enjoying a series of loan moves which included loan moves in the Championship with Swansea City and Coventry City.
He then joined the West Midlands club in a permanent deal and was part of the team that reached the play-off final last season, eventually losing to Luton Town.
He only joined Sporting in the summer, signing a five year deal with them, and has gone on to score 15 goals in 18 appearances for them.
If the rumours are correct, though, his time in Portugal may turn out to be short-lived.
