Chelsea are ready to spend even more money in January, with a new striker and central defender top of their wish list.
Since Todd Boehly and Clearwater Capital took over the club, Chelsea have spent over ₤1 billion in the transfer market, but, under Mauricio Pochettino, they seem no closer to find a winning formula, with the weekend’s defeat at Everton leaving them 12th in the Premier League.
And, for all the money spent, the team remains unbalanced, with a lack of a striker able to finish the chances created an obvious need, especially as Christopher Nkonku, one of their summer arrivals, has yet to kick a ball in anger after being injured in pre-season.
They have been linked with both Ivan Toney and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, neither of whom will come cheap, but, if they can revive the club’s bid to secure some form of European football at least for next season, may be regarded as worth the price.
