White contract extension almost agreed

Talks between Arsenal and Ben White about a new contract at the club is virtually complete, and an announcement about a contract extension is imminent.

Signed for ₤50 million as a centre-back in 2021, he was converted into a right-back by Mikel Arteta and has proved to be one of the best in the league in that position, combining fluently on the right with Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard.

His attacking qualities were shown as he set up Gabriel Jesus for the Gunners’ second goal in the Premier League win over Luton Town this week.

He is the latest player that Arsenal have tied down to a new deal, and follows in an increasingly long list of players who have committed their futures to the club.

It is a far cry from just a few years ago when players running down their contracts and effectively holding the club to ransom was the norm at the Emirates.
