Gunners remain favourite to sign defender

Arsenal remain the favourites to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande.

They have already made a bid for him, although their offer of ₤30 million was turned dowmn  in the summer.

Diomande, who was signed from Danish side Midtylland has a release clause of ₤68 million, and the Portuguese side publicly are insisting that they will not sell him for less than that. However, indications are that they will be struggling to keep hold of him beyond the end of this season and that he will be sold for less than that.

Chelsea and Newcastle United are also tracking his situation, but the Gunners remain in pole position to sign a player that has all the attributes that Mikel Arteta wants in his defenders.

Not only is he very solid defensively, but he is good on the ball as well, having completed an average of 62 passes per game this season, with an accuracy rate of 90%.
