Arsenal are tracking Brazilian midfielder Andre Trindade, who is also of interest to Liverpool.
The 22 year old was the subject of an enquiry by Jurgen Klopp’s side in the summer, but Arsenal may now be looking to hijack that move, after their technical director was spotted at the traing ground of his current club, Fluminense during the international break.
Edu Gaspar was there ostensibly to learn more about the club’s training methods and philosophy, but it would be no surprise if he were to have combined that with some discussion on individual players as well.
The Gunners have had some success in mining South American talent – Gabriel Martinelli being the most obvious example, and, having worked for the Brazilian FA before, Edu has a wide network of connections in the country.
Fluminense were unwilling to sell him in the summer because of their continued involvement in the Copa Libertadores, and they will play Boca Juniors in the final to determine who progresses through to the Club World Cup.
That means, though, that Trindade would become available in January.
