Chelsea want to hold talks with Conor Gallagher about a new deal at the club.
The England international is heading into the last 18 months of his current contract, and they are keen not to allow it getting down to the final year.
It marks a change in fortune for Gallagher, who seemed one of those destined to leave the club in the summer. He was the subject of late transfer bids from both Tottenham and West Ham.
However, he has started all but one game under Mauricio Pochettino, and has also captained the side recently in the absence of both Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
And, despite the increased competition for places in midfield, with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia all bidding for places, Gallagher appears to have earned the trust of his new manager.
The player himself has always maintained that his preference is to stay with his boyhood club.
