Amongst all the headlines created by Chelsea’s record spend in the transfer window, there has been less attention paid to their policy of trying to sign some of the best young emerging talent, especially from South America.
And the latest recruit who is set to join the club is 17 year old Gabriel Moscado, who ios currently on the books of Corinthians in Brazil.
The midfielder came through the youth system at Corinthians before graduating to the first team, having made six senior appearances to date.
He has attracted the interest of several other European clubs already, with Barcelona amongst those monitoring his position.
But Chelsea are hopeful of beating them to the punch after offering £18 million plus add-ons for his services.
With the European transfer window having closed, any deal will now have to wait until January, but the plan in any case would be to loan him back to Corinthians for the rest of the season.
