Marc Cucurella is being linked with a surprise switch to Manchester United on loan.
Erik ten Hag’s side are looking for cover for Luke Shaw who is currently out injured, and is not expected back for two months.
Spanish international Cucurella joined the Blues from Brighton in a deal worth £55 million, but he has never been able to replicate in a Chelsea shirt the form he had shown playing for the South Coast side.
And his prospects have taken a turn for the worse following the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as manager.
At one stage Atlético Madrid were considering making a bid for his services earlier this summer, but, at that time, Cucurella’s preference was to stay and try and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
A short-term loan may suit both parties, and could also give Cucurella the chance to revive what has become a flagging career.
