Chelsea have triggered the release clause for Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams.
He is expected to undergo a medical at Stamford Bridge shortly.
Personal terms have already been agreed with the 24 year old American international.
They had hoped to pair him with Moises Caicedo from Brighton, but are now facing a major re-think when it comes to transfer targets after they were gazumped by Liverpool, who have agreed to pay £110 million for the Ecuadorean.
Adams only joined Leeds from RB Leipzig last summer, joining the South Yorkshire club for a record fee for them. He made 24 Premier League appearances last season for them, but was unable to prevent them being relegated back to the Championship at the end of the campaign.
He has made 36 appearances for the US national team and is their current captain.
