Chelsea have had a bid for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi turned down by the French club.
Their offer was worth up to £24 million, but, with the 20 year old keen on a move to West London, there are still hopes that an agreement can be reached which will facilitate the transfer, via Chelsea’s new partner club, Strasbourg.
That would see him move to Strasbourg on a season long loan, and continue his developmeny thetre before .progressing through to Chelsea.
Strasbourg are now managed by Patrick Vieira, and form part of the strategy of Chelsea for a maulti-club model following the example of the City and Red Bull groups.
Last season Wahi scored 19 goals and provided six assists in 33 games, and it is hoped that the move to Strasbourg, where he will have access to Chelsea training staff and technical data, will help prepare him for the step up to the Premier League.
