Having finally agreed to sell Mason Mount to Manchester United, Chelsea are in the market for a replacement.
And one name under consideration is Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Viega, who had a break-out season for the La Liga club in the past year. He scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 36 league appearances, and his non-penalty goals put him in the top 1% for all midfielders in the top five leagues in England.
Chelsea would hope to pair him with Moises Caicedo, with the club reported to be nearing a deal for the Brighton player.
However, they face competition for the services of Viega, with Liverpool also highly interested in him.
And there also have been suggestions that champions Manchester City, having lost out to Arsenal for the services of Declan Rice, may be ready to enter the race as well.
And, unlike their two rivals, Chelsea do not have European football to offer him next season.
