Arsenal have begun talks with Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia about a move to the Emirates.
The 19 year old was a stand-out performer for the Saints last season, despite their eventual relegation to the EFL Championship, and there are a number of clubs interested in signing him.
They include Chelsea, although Moises Caicedo is the immediate target for them.
The Gunners will need to pay at least £40 million, who was sold by Manchester City to the South Coast side last summer.
That deal included a buy-back clause, but that does not come into effect for a year, City, though, are entitled to 20% of any subsequent fee paid for him.
The teenager is already a full Belgian international, having received his first call-up earlier this year for the friendly against Germany.
Meanwhile the likelihood of Thomas Partey leaving the Gummers has increased, with reports that at least three Saudi clubs are interested in buying him.
