Arsenal are being heavily linked with a move for Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.
It is rumoured that they have already made an opening bid for the German international, but they are not prepared to meet Chelsea’s £70 million valuation of the player.
The news has not been warmly welcomed across the Arsenal fan base. In part this is because the club has a very mixed record when it comes to signing players from Chelsea, with Willian, David Luiz, and Petr Cech among those who failed to find their best form for the Gunners.
And there is also some doubt about what Havertz’s best position, after the disappointing season that he had with Chelsea – is he a striker, second striker, attacking midfielder, or somebody that plays between the lines.
Nevertheless, there appears to be a belief at the North London club that, with the right coaching, Havertz could rediscover the form that he showed for Bayer Leverkusen, and which persuaded Chelsea to buy him for £62 million back in 2020.
