Chelsea are growing increasingly confident that they can persuade Mason Mount to remain with the club.
The two parties have been deadlocked for months in talks about a 24 year old, and the lack of progress in discussions encouraged other clubs to believe that they were in with a chance of signing him, with Liverpool reported to be at the head of the queue.
And with the England international having just one year left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer, Chelsea were considering selling him.
However, there are now indications that there has been a breakthrough in contract talks and that Mount can be convinced to stray with the team that he joined when he was just six years old.
That will bring some cheer to Chelsea fans who voted him their Player of the Season for the past two years, and who have always rated him higher than some of the expensive imports that have sometimes taken his place on the field.
