Arsenal have been linked with a surprise summer move for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kanté.
The Gunners are aware, as are most clubs, that Chelsea need to reduce their numbers because of FFP, and they are hoping to exploit that situation, and take advantage of the Frenchman’s contract situation.
His current deal expires at the end of the season and, although he has been offered an extension, nothing has been agreed yet.
His season has been blighted by injury, and he has only just returned to fitness after months on the side-lines which forced him to miss France’s World Cup campaign.
He is now 32 years old, which does not fit the normal profile of an Arsenal recruit, but his experience could be invaluable for a squad that will have to cope with the demands of Champions League football for the first time in seven years next season.
