Frank Lampard is set to return to Chelsea as interim manager for the rest of the season.
The club are looking for a new manager after dismissing Graham Potter at the weekend, and, whilst they wasted no time in appointing the Englishman after firing Thomas Tuchel in September, they have promised to be more diligent in their search for a replacement second time around.
Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enriqué, Mauricio Pochettino and Carlo Ancelotti have all been linked with the job.
Assistant coach Bruno Saltor took charge of the team for the match against Liverpool on Tuesday night, but a more experienced pair of hands might be needed to lead the club into their forthcoming Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid.
Lampard was in attendance at the Liverpool game at Stamford Bridge, and now he will be called upon by his old club to fill the vacancy on a temporary basis.
He has been out of work since being fired by Everton in January.
