Gunners set for defensive reinforcements

Having signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton Arsenal have turned their attention to reinforcing their defence.

Firstly, they are on the verge of signing Polish centre-back Jakub Kiwior from Italian club Spezia in a deal that could be worth up to £20 million.

Kiwior is a left-sided centre-back who will provide competition and back-up to Gabriel Magalheaes. He is set to sign a five and a half year deal at the Emirates, with the Gunners having beaten Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli to  his signature.

Kiwior started all four of his country’s games at the Qatar World Cup.

And they are also closing in on a deal for highly rated 18-year old right back Ivan Fresneda, who was wanted by a host of clubs, including Real Madrid, Newcastle and Liverpool, but who has chosen the Emirates after Mikel Arteta spoke to him personally.

He could be loaned back to his current club Real Valladolid for the rest of the season.
