Chelsea are considering bidding again to sign Benfica and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The original deal to sign the Argentine who was named the Young Player of the Tournament at the 2022 Qatar World Cup collapsed over both the amount that the West London club were prepared ot pay, and the period over which they intended to pay ot.
Benfica wanted the full €120 million of his release clause paid in one upfront payment, whilst Chelsea only offered €85 million over three years.
Not prepared to let a major asset leave on the cheap, the Portuguese club rejected the proposal out of hand.
Now Chelsea are ready to renegotiate and make a revised offer nearer to Benfica’s valuation of the player.
They also continued to be linked with a bid for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk, although the player himself wants to join London rivals Arsenal instead.
