The 21-year old was signed in 2019 from French side St. Étienne, but spent much of the following three seasons back on loan in Ligue 1, and there were fears he would never play for his parent club, with suggestions that manager Arteta was not convinced by him.
However, after being named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Season whilst he was with Marseille, he was finally given his chance by Mikel Arteta, and since has gone on to become first-choice at centre-back, forming a fine defensive partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes.
He was part of the French squad at the Qatar World Cup, but made just one appearance, as a substitute in the group game loss to Tunisia.
