Chelsea keen on Spanish midfielder

Chelsea are reported to be keen on Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, currently playing for Real Sociedad, one of the surprise packages in La Liga this season.

The Blues are aware that they may lose both Jorginho and N’Golo Kanté next summer. Both are out of contract at the end of the season, and both have been linked with moves away – Jorginho with a return to Italy, and Kanté with a switch to Barcelona.

That potentially leaves them exposed in defensive midfield, and Zubimendi is a potential solution to their problem.

The 23-year old came through the academy system at Sociedad, making his debut for them in 2023.

Considered by some as the natural heir to Sergio Busquets, he was somewhat surprisingly overlooked for a place in Spain’s squad at the Qatar World Cup.

However, following the departure of Luis Enriqué as manager following Spain’s round of 16 exit, he could be in line for more chances at international level in the future.
