Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka on a free transfer next summer.
The Frenchman has been one of the most impressive performers for the Bundesliga side since he joined them five years ago, but, with his existing contract expiring at the end of the season, he has refused to sign a new deal with them.
His potential availability had attracted the interest of a number of top clubs in Europe including Roma, West Ham and Tottenham, but the Gunners have stolen a march on them, by agreeing terns with the player, who wants to see out the season with Frankfurt.
UEFA rules allow players intending to move to a new country to sign a pre-contract agreement six months before their existing deal ends.
Ndicka, who is 23 and French, fits the age profile of the Arsenal “project” and is a left-sided defender, adding cover and potential competition to Gabriel.
