Inter Milan cannot afford the fee of around £60 million it would take to buy back Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea outright.
But they are open to renegotiating
his loan deal with the Premier League club.
He is back on loan with the Sere A side for the current season, but Inter are already opening to extending his stay back in the San Siro.
When he moved back to Italy in the summer, a loan fee was agreed between the two clubs and could now be renegotiated on different terms.
Whilst Chelsea are reluctant to sell the Belgian international for less than market value, he appears to have no future at Stamford Bridge, so a new loan might be the best solution for all the parties involved.
Lukaku is with the Belgian World Cup squad in Qatar but was forced to sit out their opening group match win over Canada with injury.
