Chelsea’s hunt for a Sporting Director appears to be over.
That follows news that the club are on the verge of appointing Christoph Freund to the position.
Freund has been working at Red Bull Salzburg but, having now agreed personal terms with the man himself, now have to work out a compensation package with the Australian club.
It also means that Todd Boehly can step down from the position he temporarily filled over the summer, and that new manager Graham Potter has a “football man” that he can work alongside.
Austrian Freund has been credited with plucking Erling Haaland out of the Norwegian leagues for his fist shot at the big time, and now Chelsea will be hoping he can perform similar magic at Stamford Bridge.
It also means that the new owners of the West London club have begun to rebuild the executive structure after several key departures following the takeover in May.
