Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has turned down the initial offer of a new contract at the club.
That is because that it is lower than the salary of second-choice Kepa Arrizabalaga, who remains at Stamford Bridge despite being heavily linked with a move away in the summer.
The Senegalese international has had a difficult start to the season, with high profile mistakes against Leeds and West Ham, although a controversial VAR decision meant that it did not cost his team against the Hammers.
Despite that, the club still want to tie the stopper down to a new deal, even though he is already under contract until 2025.
Arrizabalaga earns £190,000 a week and Mendy expects at least parity with that,
The West London club are looking to secure the futures of some of their biggest talents, and have already had success in the case of Reece James. Who has signed a new six year deal worth a reported £250.000 per week.
