Chelsea want Sporting Director before next transfer window

Chelsea want to appoint a new Sporting Director before the transfer window opens again in January.

Since the departure of Marina Granovskaia, Roman Abramovich’s trusted lieutenant, who was I chare of all transfer business and contract negotiations at Stamford Bridge, new owner Todd Boehly has been fulfilling the role.

However, the American businessman has no desire to do this on a long-term basis and now a shortlist pf candidates for the job has been drawn-up.

The names on are thought to include former Barcelona full-back Maxwell, and Michael Edwards, who performed a similar role at Liverpool and is highly regarded within the game.

With Petr Cech having chosen to walk away at the same time as Granovskaia, there is widespread acceptance of a need for more experience in the backroom at Stamford Bridge.
