Ajax blocked a late move by Chelsea to sign midfielder Edson Alvarez.
The Mexican had an angry exchange with bosses at the Eredivisie club after they rejected a bid of £43 million for the player from the Stamford Bridge outfit.
The reason given was that the Dutch transfer window had already closed, meaning that they would not be able to sign a replacement, and they considered that that had already lost too many players this summer already.
The defensive midfielder had refused to train with the Amsterdam based side in order to try and force the move through, but, in the end, his efforts were thwarted.
During the transfer window, Ajax sold both Antony and Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United, Sebastian Haller to Borussia Dortmund, Nicolas Tagliafico to Lyon, and Ryan Gravenberch to Bayern Munich.
Now Ajax face the challenge of trying to reintegrate a disgruntled Alvarez back into their team.
