Arsenal may be forced to make a late move into the transfer market after Mohamed Elneny picked up what has been described as a “significant injury” against Fulham at the weekend.
The Egyptian international had been brought in as a replacement for Thomas Partey after the Ghanaian himself got injured, but now is expected to miss several months of three season, leaving the Gunners light in the central midfield area.
Elneny has been at the club since 2016, making him one of the longest servants at the Emirates. He came in for Partey towards the end of last season and did enough to earn himself a new contract.
With Partey injury prone, and with the team about ot play three matches a week when thw Europa League starts, Mikel Arteta’s team do not have any obvious replacement in the current squad, unless they want to change their tactical approach to games.
