Brighton want to sign Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour.
Ideally they would have liked to take the Scottish midfielder on loan.
Premier League rules, however, do not allow teams to have two players on loan from the same club, and they have already taken defender Levi Colwill for the season from the Stamford Bridge club.
Gilmour was touted as a Chelsea star of the future after starring for Scotland in the Euros last summer, but he has since lost his way, with a loan move to Norwich City in the 2021-2022 campaign not panning out as either club or player would have wanted.
Everton, too, are showing interest and with Chelsea interested in signing their young star Antony Gordon, there have been suggestions that Gilmour could be allowed to go the other way to sweeten the deal.
Frank Lampard is known to be an admirer of Gilmour from the time when he was Chelsea boss.
