Serie A club Hellas Verona are in discussions with Arsenal about a move for Spanish defender Pablo Mari.
He spent last season on loan with Udinese but, although he did well for them, they turned down the option to make the move permanent.
That has led to Verona to make an approach to the Gunners, but a potential stumbling block is his current Arsenal salary, which they could not match.
For them to make their move they would need for Arsenal to part of his wages, although it is unclear if the Premier League club are prepared to do this.
Mari initially joined the Gunners on laon from Brazilian side Flamengo, and the deal was later made permanent.
He has had his fair share of injuries since he has been in England, and has also struggled with the pace of the Premier League.
He remains under contract at the Emirates until 2024, but appears to have no future under Mikel Arteta.
